Trey McWhorter is a successful Austin-based entrepreneur, investor and advisor. After nearly 20 years of high tech experience in a variety of product and brand management roles spanning hardware, software and services, Trey joined Rockport Investment Partners as a Managing Director to lead the Texas practice with a focus on building relationships and project execution. Trey promotes Rockport’s growth through strategic introductions, business development and support on the firm’s merger and acquisition advisory and business consulting engagements.
Prior to his role at Rockport Investment Partners, Trey held a number of roles in product management and marketing with a variety of technology companies across hardware, software and services. Over the course of nearly 20 years, Trey has developed deep knowledge of business planning, product and brand management, channel and pricing strategy, competitive analysis and partner marketing.
At Dell, Trey held marketing roles focused on hardware products and service offerings serving small and medium business customers. Trey supported new product development, product launches, competitive analysis and pricing and promotional strategy during Dell’s explosive growth years of the mid- to late-1990s.
After returning to the University of Texas for an MBA, Trey was part of a turnaround effort at former tech-darling Iomega, culminating in a successful acquisition by EMC. Trey managed high-margin hardware products focused on small to medium businesses, as well as a then new and rapidly growing line of consumer-oriented storage products designed for the Apple market.
Trey’s high-tech experience and knowledge of services marketing to high tech customers led to a role at National Instruments during the economic downturn, where he spearheaded an effort to increase service sales to existing product customers. After National Instruments, Trey joined SailPoint, an industry-leading identity management startup, in a software product management role where he also developed vertical marketing plans and competitive analysis.
During Trey’s career, he has served clients across a number of industries and verticals, from healthcare to construction to engineering and education. Trey has developed valuable expertise in most aspects of outbound sales and marketing for a variety of product types and brings a creative and analytical approach to business problems.
